French students visit NULC

Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) received a week-long visit from 22 French engineering students, keen to build their English language speaking skills and participate on cultural visits to Birmingham and Liverpool.

NULC Level 3 Travel and Tourism students organised the visit, including arranging the trips and pulling together the daily itinerary as part of their course studies.
Travel and Tourism student Abbie Bowler, aged 19 from Audley said: “As part of the visit, we got to organise the trip to Birmingham, where we visited the National Motorcycle Museum, and the trip to Liverpool, where we visited the Merseyside Maritime Museum, Liverpool ONE and we also acted as tour guides when visiting the Albert Dock.”
The French students, from the school ‘Lycee Pierre Caramino’ in Egletons, in the Limousin region of France, also participated in a range of fun and educational activities, helping them to communicate in English with NULC students who study Sport, Construction, Engineering and Public Services.
Ben Sproston, Curriculum Manager of Travel and Tourism, Public Services and Accounting at NULC, said: “It’s really important for us as a college to develop links on an international scale to support the Travel and Tourism curriculum we offer. Staff and students who were involved in the visit have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it and we look forward to working with staff and students from  Lycee Pierre Caramino again in the near future.”
Travel and Tourism student Patsy Hyland, aged 18 from Stone, said: “Organising the visit has helped me to improve my organisational and time keeping skills which will further help me in my studies to become a teacher in the subject.”
